The MS Readathon is a reading-based fundraiser run by Multiple Sclerosis Australia
(MSA). Now in its 33rd year the MS Readathon encourages children and now adults,
to read books, learn about multiple sclerosis (MS) whilst raising funds to help
people living with MS.
It’s so easy to get involved. All you do is simply read as many books as possible throughout August and ask family and friends to sponsor you. They can do this by either pledging an amount per book read or by the time you spend reading or by giving you a donation. This money goes to support people living with MS. All those who complete the program will receive a Certificate of Appreciation signed by the Prime Minister.
In this age of ever busier lives, it can be difficult to think of reading as a good pass-time. But no one should miss out on the benefits of reading good books.
Reading is a great pass-time for children as they grow and mature. If the love for books that can easily be instilled into young children continues into adulthood, the benefits of reading will continue with it. Not only is it a healthy personal and family activity, but reading is an excellent way to keep learning and to exercise the mind.
Silently reading a book or a magazine is a great way to leave the world behind and have alone time. Reading will take attention off the cares of life and exercise the imagination. And whether you realize it or not, reading is an excellent learning strategy that takes little effort.
So why not put a date with a favourite book in your busy calendar right away! Then simply kick off your shoes, and escape - if only for a short while.....you'll be so glad you did!
Who would have thought that by treating yourself you could actually make a difference
in the lives of others!
