The MS Readathon is a reading-based fundraiser run by Multiple Sclerosis Australia
(MSA). Now in its 33rd year the MS Readathon encourages children and adults of all
ages, to read books, learn about multiple sclerosis (MS) whilst raising funds to
help people living with MS.
It’s so easy to get involved. All you do is simply read as many books as possible
throughout August and ask family and friends to sponsor you. They can do this by
either pledging an amount per book read or by the time you spend reading or by giving
you a donation. This money goes to support people living with MS. Once you have
completed the program you will receive a Certificate of Appreciation signed by the
Prime Minister and a reading reward as a thank you for your efforts, if you raise
over $30.
Did you know that reading can make you an expert? Whether you are interested in
stats or surfing, coins or carburettors, reading can help you become an expert.
Books can also help you to see the world, from the frontiers of the Old West to
the frontiers of space, from the top of the Eiffel Tower to the bottom of the Grand
Canyon.
There are so many reasons why you should read...to learn more about people and organisations
that support the causes you believe in, to discover new interests in things you
currently know nothing about, and don't forget the free advice. That’s right, lots
of novels feature teenage characters who have problems and pressures just like the
ones every teen experience from time to time.
So if you would like to learn more about any of these things, or have a favourite
entertainer, sports hero or film star you would like to know more about, or are
completely consumed by a particular genre, do yourself a favour and stick your head
into the library at lunchtime today, pick out a book and read...... not only will
you be helping yourself but you will be helping to make a difference in the lives
of the 21,000 Australians living with multiple sclerosis.
