Sponsorship
How do I get sponsors?
- First, make sure you ask mum or dad if is ok for someone to sponsor you.
- The best people to ask are family and friends
- Never approach strangers for sponsorship
- For fundraising tips about how to get sponsorship, follow Bosko’s Top 10 Fundraising Tips
How do I ask somebody to sponsor me?
- Let the person know that you are participating in the MS Readathon to raise money for people living with Multiple Sclerosis by reading books.
- Tell them how much you are aiming to raise. Ask them if they would like to sponsor you by giving you a donation, or sponsoring you for every book you read.
- Let them know that a donation of $2 or over is tax deductible, and that you can write them a receipt on the spot!
- Always be polite when asking for donations and remember to say a big “THANK YOU”, from you and the MS Society!
- Bosko has some great tips that you can follow. See Bosko’s Top 10 Fundraising Tips.
- You might want to print out and show them the What the Sponsorship Money can do page so they can see how sponsoring you can help people living with MS.
What if a sponsor says no?
- Thank the person politely for listening to you.
- It’s OK for people to say no.
How much can a sponsor donate?
- Let your sponsor know how much you are trying to raise. Tell them that it is money you are raising for Multiple Sclerosis Australia by reading in the MS Readathon.
- You might want to print out and show them the What the Sponsorship Money can do page so they can see how sponsoring you can help people living with MS.
- They will then decide how much they can donate.
- Sponsors might like to donate their money straight away, or they might want to wait to see how many books you have read or how long you’ve spent reading.
- Be sure to thank sponsors for their donation.
What if I lose my sponsorship or book list?
- You should always keep these lists in a very safe place.
- If you do lose some of your forms you can download a new sponsor list or reading record list from this website. Or you can start a new list on a form that you make up.
- Try very hard to keep the forms safe though because they are your record of the money you are raising.
