My Story
Henry and I, both being bookworms since we were kids, will be revisiting our childhoods in August by participating in the MS Readathon. As we read, we will be raising funds to help families impacted by Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and other neurological conditions like Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. We’ve formed a team that we’ve aptly named The Shelf Care Club, as for both of us, reading is an important part of our mental wellbeing.
As expected, my desire to read books outside of what I need to read for law school has slightly deteriorated over the last few months. I’m hoping to revive my love for reading by recreating the days of participating in MS Readathon as a child and only reading children’s books throughout August. Guided by the wisdom of Lara Cain Gray’s “The Grown-Up's Guide to Picture Books”, I’d like to mindfully explore different approaches to reading.
I will be reading children’s books mostly in Tagalog and Japanese to make this venture a bit more challenging (and worth making a donation for). I’ve been spending more time on learning about my birth country, the Philippines, and I’ve developed a special bond with Japan over the years. My Tagalog speaking skills are at the level of a 4-5 year old and my reading skills are even lower. My Japanese is also still very low level. Swipe through this post to see some of the books I’m planning to read >>
To top things off, I will be transforming this wooden ladder that we had lying around at home into a book display as a fun side mission. After doing a little experiment the other day, I anticipate this will take about 15-20 hours of work.
Henry and I would both really appreciate it if you could support us with a small donation. You could make a one-off donation now (to help us get geared up for August), or you could make a donation that reflects how many books we actually read at the end of August.
