The MS Readathon FAQs

What is the MS Readathon?

The MS Readathon is all about kids helping kids! Children are challenged to read as much as they can in August and raise funds for kids who have a parent living with multiple sclerosis.

Can I register multiple children under one email address?

Yes! Simply click here to start the registration process for your children. Start by entering your parent or guardian details first. When you get to the ‘Your Dhildren's Details’ step of registration, fill in the details for your child. If you’d like to add another child under the same email, select the ‘add another child’ button. You can register up to 5 children under the one email address.

If you would like assistance with completing these registrations please feel free to give us a call on 1300 677 323 and we can assist you.

I am a teacher and can't register all my pupils at once, what can I do?

The MS Readathon requires parents to register their children. There are many reasons for this, one of which is privacy. As a teacher you can register your school and create a class team here. Then let the parents (or your students) know by sending them a link to your class or school online page.

If you would like assistance with completing these registrations please feel free to give us a call on 1300 677 323 and we can assist you.

I have registered my child in the wrong school or class.

No problem, please get in touch with us at or call 1300 677 323 and we can move them to the correct class or school for you.

I’m not registering with a school or class. Can I still register a team?

If you are registering as part of a different organisation for example scouts or a youth group, you can register as a team!

My child or children are not at school yet, can they still take part?

Yes of course! We believe reading is important at all ages and encourage people of all ages to register. You can register your child here.

I've already registered my child to take part, can they still join a school or class after I've registered?

Yes! Simply head to your child's dashboard and click the 'Join a school/class' button. If your child's school and/or class has already signed up, you'll be able to search for them and connect your child to their school/class.

I’m an adult (big kid!) not registering kids, can I take part?

Is there a fundraising minimum?

There is no fundraising minimum, we encourage you and your family to raise as much as is doable for you. This could be $25 or $250. Last year participants raised $147 on average!

The most important thing is that you have fun making a difference for kids who have a parent living with multiple sclerosis. But remember there are loads of awesome fundraising prizes and awards to be won!

I have shared my fundraising page on Facebook but have not received the badge?

So that our system knows you have shared your page on Facebook you must share it via your dashboard.

Unfortunately, if you simply post to Facebook, not by clicking on the Facebook icon on your fundraising dashboard, we won’t be able to allocate you a badge unless you contact us.

Simply go to your fundraising dashboard here to share your page.

Do you have any resources available to help teachers?

Yes, absolutely! Please check out the teacher resources section of the website.

Do you have any resources available to help parents and kids?

Yes, absolutely! Please check out the 'Resources' section on your child's dashboard. Or alternatively, you can also download them from the website here.

Do my individual donations tally to my school/class?

Yes! As long as you chose to ‘join a school’ or class as part of your registration,  your donations will add to your class or school tally.

Can I collect donations via a Facebook fundraiser?

We do not recommend setting up a Facebook Fundraiser or using the Facebook Donate button to collect donations for MS Readathon. Facebook donations are handled and held by a third party, so we can’t sync these with the MS Readathon event.

Only donations collected through MS Readathon platforms will show on your fundraising page. We encourage you to share a link to your personal fundraising page instead on social media to ask friends and family to donate.

How do I reset my password?

To re-set your password, click the ‘login’ button on the website and simply hit the ‘forgot password?’ link.

How many books do I have to read?

There is no minimum (or maximum) amount of books you have to read! Read as many books as you can in the month of August. Books can include comics, magazines, picture books, text books, novels. Anything you read, log as a book!

When do I start reading?

You can start logging your books read for the MS Readathon from 1 August 2021!

You can start reading earlier, but technically, the MS Readathon is to read as much as you can, throughout August.

How do I log books I’ve read or reviewed?

Log into your personal MS Readathon account that was created when you registered. Here you can go to the My Books section to log books read or review books read.

I qualified for a free t-shirt, when will I receive it?

We wanted to give you a quick update on where the t-shirts/book bags/socks are as we have been experiencing some delays. Due to a shipping delay and now restrictions in Sydney where our distribution warehouse is based, we haven’t been able to get all the t-shirts out as early as we want – we do apologise. The t-shirts have now all arrived, and our team is working very hard this week to get them in the post to you. Please note that Australia Post is also experiencing some delays, so delivery is taking a little longer than usual, depending on which state you live in.

Please note that each item is sent separately, to each child, as this is the most cost-effective way to post the merchandise to you.

Thanks for your patience while we manage the realities of a global pandemic and the effect it is having on our supply chains.

I registered multiple kids and have received one of my kids welcome packs but not the others. Where are they?

As a charity MS qualifies for Charity Mail which means we can send out welcome packs at a more cost effective rate. However sending multiple packs together means we do not meet the dimension restrictions to qualify for Charity Mail. Therefore each child's welcome pack will be sent out individually and will begin to be distributed from late June and may take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive. Packs should arrive within a week of each other, however don't hesitate to contact the team at if you have any questions regarding this. Thank you for your understanding.

How do I personalise my Avatar?

As you hit fundraising milestones you will be sent an email with a link to update and personalise your Avatar! There are three levels of customisation for your Avatar in total. Make sure you do this with your kids, as they love selecting the different customisations!

The three fundraising milestones to achieve are:

  1. Get your first donation – customise your Avatar head
  2. Raise $60 – customise your Avatar body
  3. Raise $150 – choose an accessory for your Avatar

What badges can I collect?

We have 14 MS Readathon badges to collect (and up to 16 if you're a regular MS Readathon reader) and you can read about these as well as our customisable Avatars on the 'rewards' section of our website here.

How can I enquire about a school visit?

Unfortunately at the moment due to current circumstances we are unable to offer MS Readathon Ambassador school visits in person. However here is a great video resource from one of our MS Readathon Ambassadors, Stephen, that you can share with your students.
