The MS Readathon FAQs

Registering

What is the MS Readathon?

The MS Readathon is all about kids helping kids! Children are challenged to read as much as they can in August and raise funds for kids who have a parent living with multiple sclerosis.

Can I register multiple children under one email address?

Yes! When registrations open on 1 June, simply click here to start the registration process for your children. Start by entering your parent or guardian details first. When you get to the ‘children’ step of registrations, simply hit the ‘add’ button to put in your child’s details. If you’d like to add another child under the same email, select the ‘add another’ button. You can register up to 5 children under the one email address.

If you would like assistance with completing these registrations please feel free to give us a call on 1300 677 323 and we can assist you.

I am a teacher and can't register all my pupils at once, what can I do?

The MS Readathon requires parents to register their children. There are many reasons for this, one of which is privacy. As a teacher you can register your school and create a class team. Then let the parents (or your students) know by sending them a link to your class or school online page.

If you would like assistance with completing these registrations please feel free to give us a call on 1300 677 323 and we can assist you.

I have registered my child in the wrong school or class.

No problem, please get in touch with us at msreadathon@ms.org.au or call 1300 677 323 and we can move them to the correct class or school for you.

I’m a parent registering my child, but we aren’t registering with a school or class. Can we register as a team?

Yes! When registrations open on 1 June, simply click here to start the registration process for your child or children. Once you get to the ‘team’ step you can choose to ‘create a team’ (this could be your family or with your kids’ friends) or ‘join a team’ that someone else has created (you’ll just need to know the team name).

If you would like assistance with completing these registrations please feel free to give us a call on 1300 677 323 and we can assist you.

I’m not registering with a school or class. Can I register a team?

If you are registering as part of a different organisation for example scouts or a youth group, you can register as a team! When registrations open on 1 June, simply click here to complete your registration.

My child or children are not at school yet, can they still take part?

Yes of course! We believe reading is important at all ages and encourage people of all ages to register. From 1 June, you can register your child here.

I’m an adult (big kid!) not registering kids, can I take part?

Yes! When registrations open on 1 June, simply click here to register as an adult.

Fundraising

Is there a fundraising minimum?

There is no fundraising minimum, we encourage you and your family to raise as much as is doable for you. This could be $25 or $250. Last year participants raised $147 on average!

The most important thing is that you have fun making a difference for kids who have a parent living with multiple sclerosis. But remember there are loads of awesome fundraising prizes and awards to be won!

I have shared my fundraising page on Facebook but have not received the badge?

So that our system knows you have shared your page on Facebook you must share it via your dashboard.

Unfortunately, if you simply post to Facebook, not by clicking on the Facebook icon on your fundraising page, we won’t be able to allocate you a badge unless you contact us.

Simply go to your fundraising page here to share your page.

Do you have any resources available to help teachers?

Yes, absolutely! Please check out the teacher resources section of the website.

Do my individual donations tally to my school/class?

Yes! As long as you chose to ‘join a school’ or class as part of your registration,  your donations will add to your class or school tally.

Can I collect donations via a Facebook fundraiser?

We do not recommend setting up a Facebook Fundraiser or using the Facebook Donate button to collect donations for MS Readathon. Facebook donations are handled and held by a third party, so we can’t sync these with the MS Readathon event.

Only donations collected through MS Readathon platforms will show on your fundraising page. We encourage you to share a link to your personal fundraising page instead on social media to ask friends and family to donate.

How do I reset my password?

To re-set your password, click the ‘login’ button on the website and simply hit the ‘forgot password?’ link.

Reading

How many books do I have to read?

There is no minimum (or maximum) amount of books you have to read! Read as many books as you can in the month of August. Books can include comics, magazines, picture books, text books, novels. Anything you read, log as a book!

When do I start reading?

You can start logging your books read for the MS Readathon from 1 August 2020!

You can start reading earlier, but technically, the MS Readathon is to read as much as you can, throughout August.

How do I log books I’ve read or reviewed?

Log into your personal MS Readathon account that was created when you registered. Here you can go to the My Books section to log books read or review books read.

Parents

I qualified for a free t-shirt, when will I receive it?

Your t-shirt will be sent with your welcome kit. Due to some delays with international shipping, your t-shirts (along with your welcome pack) will start being dispatched from 15 June 2020.

Australia Post is taking between 2 and 3 weeks for deliveries in some areas. We appreciate your patience.

I qualified for a free pencil case, when will I receive it?

Your Pencil Case will be sent with your welcome kit. Due to some delays with international shipping, your t-shirts (along with your welcome pack) will start being dispatched from 15 June 2020.

Australia Post is taking between 2 and 3 weeks for deliveries in some areas. We appreciate your patience.

I qualified for the free welcome kit, when will I receive it?

Your welcome kit will take about 3 weeks to arrive after your registration is completed.

Please note due to COVID-19, Australia Post volumes are at the highest levels they have ever experienced, and there are significant delays in the network.

I registered multiple kids and have received one of my kids welcome packs but not the others. Where are they?

As a charity MS qualifies for Charity Mail which means we can send out welcome packs at a more cost effective rate. However sending multiple packs together means we do not meet the dimension restrictions to qualify for Charity Mail. Therefore each child's welcome pack will be sent out individually and should be received in the mail 2-3 weeks after registration. Packs should arrive within a week of each other, howeverd don't hesitate to contact the team at msreadathon@ms.org.au if you have any questions regarding this. Thank you for your understanding.

How do I personalise my Avatar?

As you hit fundraising milestones you will be sent an email with a link to update and personalise your Avatar! There are three levels of customisation for your Avatar in total. Make sure you do this with your kids, as they love selecting the different customisations!

The three fundraising milestones to achieve are:

  1. Get your first donation – customise your Avatar head
  2. Raise $50 – customise your Avatar body
  3. Raise $100 – choose an accessory for your Avatar
