Briar Rose: A Novel of the Holocaust

Jane Yolen's classic novel of memory, stories, and the Holocaust--now in a beautiful pocket-sized hardcover edition--is a powerful retelling of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty that is "heartbreaking and heartwarming."

I found this book quite well written, though with some clunky language used sometimes. I also found that the author sometimes tried too hard to draw parallels and imply metaphors. At times, I was confused as too where the story was going: a fantasy route, a historical route or a fairy-tale route. Overall, the story was well-rounded and with great, fleshed-out characters.
