Date Me, Bryson Keller

This was super cute and a fun read, but with a good dose of emotional vulnerability and heartbreak [because balance!]

The story explores the coming out journey for a mixed race, religious teenager Kai. He begins to fake date the ‘it’ guy at school Bryson, due to an existing dare.

What readers are served is a falling in love montage between them filled both with adorable scenes and deep and real discussion. I really saw myself and my struggles reflected in this narrative, and Kevin penned an #ownvoices story beautifully.

It was easy to read and had the classic elements of a contemporary romance YA novel. However, there was some charm that really lacked in the first third of the book, and it’s probably a result of my high expectations ?
