When Olivia Markham tells the police, that she is an orphan with nowhere to go, she’s realised she might have been better off in Newcastle. Her friends Mary, Dulcie and Jo have to work hard to not be punished. What will Olivia do?
I really relished Escape from Cockatoo Island because the author involved me within the book, and I was able to think of myself as Olivia. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys mystery/adventure.
I felt the story was too vague in the blurb. I would have also appreciated the story more if the author had a series for this book or had made it longer.
I intensely enjoyed the story detailing how brave she was. Olivia was strong brave and hopeful during the uncertain times; she had many adventures with each one describing how brave and couraged she and her fellow friends were. The biggest appeal for me was that the author, Yvette Poshoglian, described the book, and characters, particularly well.
A very unforgettable quote from the book: ‘The boy was still waving in the distance, waving his hat in the air, as we turned the corner, out of sight of the old world and into the new.’Show moreShow less
