The main character, Johannes, has to live through a war. From living in a beautiful house in Poland, he starts living in Australia. How does he get here? How will he and his family survive?
r /> I really loved Goodbye, Mr Hitler because it shows how you can find family and create new friends after being lost for a long time, in war. I would recommend this book to people who are not scared easily and to those who like mystery.
I thought the story would have been better for me if instead of 3 different books in the series that there could be a lengthy book which would have three sections of the story.
The author has included some violence related to the war. The author has done this to keep the story on how Johannes creates and makes new friends.
I especially enjoyed the book because it was detailed and had many interesting scenes. It told the story in different peoples’ perspectives, so it gave different views of things. I also enjoyed that there were many unforgettable moments in the story, Goodbye, Mr Hitler.
A very unforgettable quote from the book: ‘When the ogre has been vanquished, sit down upon the quiet earth and try to understand the ogre’s anguish and his twisted fear. Only by understanding can we stop them rising in our midst.’ Show more Show less

Due to Jackie french's inimitable, compelling style, this book should be on many 11–14 year olds' to- read lists. Show more Show less
