This is book about 2 friends, Thane and Ciena live on a planet called Jelacu, and want to join the imperial starfleet one day. In the end they both make it in to the academy and both graduate top of the class. They both join the imperial starfleet. Thane then leaves seeing how dark the empire really is, and what they do to people they don't like
