Vanessa's writing is absolutely beautiful. All three of Vanessa's books have a way of transporting me to where the characters are without using overly poetic scene building (something I find a little boring). This just took it to the next level, because I definitely felt like I was right there on the island. How? No idea. It's just brilliant.
I must admit - I was a little confused for the first few chapters. I still don't understand why the their names were similar/the same. I was hoping it would come together at the end but maybe I missed something?
But the storyline was dark and complex and touched on some serious topics. I loved how the timelines were easily distinguished and how they intertwined.
The characters were so well thought out. Their personalities jumped off the page. Sylvie was brilliant and I just wanted to hug her and Fran.
I closed the book feeling like I was satisfied with the ending. It's just what the story needed.
