This book is about a girl, Nisha, when India is newly freed from the British, she and her family must travel from what is now known as Pakistan, to India. Many people have been killed with all the fighting, so will her family survive through these gruesome times?

The characters include Nisha, a girl who is looking for a hopeful future, her home and her own identity, Papa, who is Nisha’s father and is a doctor, Dadi, who is Nisha’s grandmother and Amil, Nisha’s twin brother who loves creativity and drawing. They also had Kazi their cook, who was a lot more like family, Rashid Uncle who was Nisha’s mum’s brother. Over in India, once they had been free from the British, everything looked a mess, everyone was fighting on the roads, some people even attacked her while she was at home or walking to school. Everybody knew that it was going to be like this until the land cleared of all the Hindu’s.

Nisha and her family have to move to what is now known as India. The story has many challenges for Nisha and her family. What can she do to save them all?

I really loved this book because the author, Veera Hiranandani, has made the book as if it were real. She has said at the end of the book, that her father and his parents had to travel across the border like Nisha did.

I think that this book is a story out there that is real, and that Veera Hiranandani has written this book in a lovely way and that she should continue writing books that inspire her. For a rating I would give this book a 9/10 because the author has dedicated herself to it.
