Tribal Lores is a wonderful mix of Italian and Australian culture, growing up, fitting in, making friends and adapting to change. ⁣

Written from the perspective of an Australian teenage boy with strong Italian roots, this book was a refreshing change from my usual YA high school love story. It was really interesting to read through the eyes of a boy in high school and to be privy to their experiences, friendship dynamics and risk taking brains as they grow up. ⁣

After travelling to Italy earlier this year and seeing how important their culture is to all facets of their life, it was very interesting to read about this experience in Australia - distanced but still connected.⁣

Fusillo brings to light the culture barriers experienced by those who have moved to Australia or are growing up in Australia and are trying to juggle their rich, cultural history with this new way of living. I think this book would be perfect for lovers of Melina Marchetta’s ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ and anyone looking for a different perspective on fitting in and growing up.⁣
