Lift-the-Flap Questions and Answers About Space is a favourite in our house. It’s the kind of book you can keep coming back to because there’s always something new to learn or a fact you’d forgotten.

Arch is very proud that he now knows the planets in order, what a galaxy is and what stars are made of. His biggest question was, “Are there aliens in outer space?” The book’s answer: maybe…

Reading it also happened to line up with Estelle doing a science assignment on planets, so Arch spent a fair bit of time in her ear offering space facts while she was trying to get it done. I’m sure she found this extremely helpful. Haha.

We love a conversation that starts with, “Did you know…?” Bring on more facts, I say.

Space, flaps and facts. Five stars.

Archie’s First Trip to Hogwarts

We’ve kicked off Archie’s MS Readathon with an ICONIC first book: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Arch was given this illustrated copy at his Welcome to the World party in 2022, and it has spent the past four years sitting on his bookshelf waiting for its moment.

Its moment has finally arrived.

We’re reading it together as a family and are already up to chapter three. Archie has one very firm literary opinion so far: Dudley is dreadful.

Book one is officially underway.

Meet Archie: Reader, Question-Asker, Bluey Fan

Hi, I’m Archie.

I’m four, and I like books about animals, space, science, magic, Bluey and pretty much anything that can teach me a good fact to share with everyone later.

I have lots of people to read with. Mum and Dad read to me at home, Am and Stelly do too, and at daycare I read with my friends and educators. Granny reads me lots and lots and lots of books, which is one of the best things about seeing her.

I’m learning my letters, sounding out words and practising my writing. I can write my own name all by myself now, which I’m very proud of.

Archie’s First MS Readathon

Archie is doing the MS Readathon this year (his first one). Woohoo!

We’ve set him a goal of reading 20 books and raising some money for people living with MS along the way.

We thought it would be a lovely way to make reading a bigger part of our family life, while also showing Archie that when you’re in a position to help someone else, you do.

We’ll be sharing the books we read, Archie’s reviews and, judging by how things have started, some fairly strong opinions about fictional characters.
