Chapter 3
Two years ago, I signed up for the MS Readathon. Partly because I missed out on it as a kid, but mostly because it’s personal.
My partner has Multiple Sclerosis.
If you’ve been through that process, you know how heavy it can be. The initial diagnosis, the uncertainty, the constant decisions, it is a lot to take on. We’re in a really good place now, but we didn’t get here alone.
We’ve been backed by a strong support network. The practical stability of Medicare and the PBS makes a massive difference, and the people around us, the friends and family who show up and stay consistent, have been just as important. This readathon is just a small way for me to give something back to the broader MS community.
Why I Keep Doing It
The unexpected part of this has been how much I’ve enjoyed the reading itself.
It has pushed me completely out of my usual habits. I've found myself picking up different formats, short stories, novellas, and authors I wouldn’t normally choose. There is less defaulting to the same old genres, and more just enjoying reading for what it is. My appreciation for it has really bloomed over the last two years.
Round Three
So here we are, year three.
The goal is the same: read a lot, enjoy the process, and raise a bit of money and awareness along the way.
If you’re able to donate, I’d really appreciate the support. If not, simply sharing this page or sending through a solid book recommendation is just as useful.
Either way, thanks for being part of the network.
