Sarah and the Thesaurus

Lily's great-Granny Catherine was a prolific author of childrens' stories throughout my childhood, and I am the family keeper of her collected works. Only one of them was officially published.  Sarah and Thesaurus (1999), illustrated by the now illustrious author himself Nick Bland.

Lily was unsure going into it, as she didn't know what a Thesaurus was, but then neither did  the main character  Sarah or her friend Emily, so it was a journey Lily got to take with them. She enjoyed the story greatly, but was very much less enthused about my actual Thesaurus.

Making a Difference

Today was Day 9 of Lily's MS Readathon and she read FIVE fairy tales to us, from the Lake Press First Readers series. The first one of these, was Red Riding Hood, and it was given to Lily by her Prep/Foundation teacher at the end of that school year. Lily always loved the inscription, and now here she is,  already making a difference! She's a third of the way through her reading commitment and only needs $67 more in donations to meet her fundraising goal. This has not only made her proud of herself, but has also done incredible things for her reading confidence. Thank you so much everyone for supporting her in this endeavour!

Day One Done!

Lily has done very well on her first day. She read three Fancy Nancy books to her mum, Jess, on the couch today, snuggled up under a doona to block out the cold!

This month also includes CBCA Children's Book Week and Lily intends to do her school's Book Week Parade dressed as Fancy Nancy!

Lily's First Fundraising Adventure!

Lily is excited to be the one doing this year's Alexandrou family fundraising event. We try to do one fundraiser a year as a family, but this is Lily's first time in the driver's seat! Or rather, the reader's comfy place!

Lily's goals are to read 100 books in August to raise $1,000 for MS Australia. I talked her down from the somewhat loftier goals of 500 books for $10,000 but told her she could still try.

Hopefully her aspirations turn others toward inspiration to donate and support this worthy cause. Thank you to anyone and everyone who chooses to support our kiddo in her goals.

And we know times are tough, so if you can't donate financially please feel free to offer encouragement or second-hand kids books, or come and let her read to you!
