I love reading.
My name is Remi and I am 6 years old. I love reading.When I was a young child - before I was 6 - I used to mostly like being read to by my mum and dad. Now because I’m 6 I enjoy reading books all by myself too. Some times I read to Zah Bear - she is my sister.
My teacher Ms Sedgwick is also teaching me how to read. We get to meet all our special friends like Fifi Flamingo, Danny Dingo, and Poppy Princess. Ms Sedgwick gives me a book to read every week for homework. I read it all by myself and I read it to my mum. My mum loves it when I read to her.
My mum reads fictional books to me. Fictional books have made up stories inside them. There are characters, a setting, and something that happens. Sometimes the fictional stories are funny, crazy, cheeky or adventurous. When mum reads to me I feel so special because I get her all to myself. I snuggle up with her in the bed and she reads while I imagine the story in my head. Some times it feels like it’s a movie in my head. I enjoy looking at the pictures when I follow the story on the pages.
My dad reads fact books to me. My favourite fact books are by Gary Fleming. His books are super colourful.
Every book I read has an author and an illustrator. The author writes the words however the illustrator draws the pictures. Every illustrator uses their own way of drawing. My favourite author is Julia Donaldson. Interestingly, Julia Donaldson’s books usually have the same illustrator- Axel Scheffler. I love the way Axel Scheffler draws. Whenever I see his pictures I know they are his because I have read so many Julia Donaldson books that I can spot his style!
Some of Julia Donaldson’s books are illustrated by other people. Those books are usually more serious or more complicated to understand.
I hunted for every Julia Donaldson book and I have all of them. I read them all the time! There is a new one coming out soon. It’s been a very long time since Julia Donaldson wrote a new book for us. This new one is called Gruffalo Granny. I pre ordered one and now I have to wait ages until I get it. I saw the front cover of the book and on it there is a new character called Gruffalo Granny. She is so cute I really love her already. She looks gentle. I have read Gruffalo, Gruffalo’s child, and now I really can’t wait to read Gruffalo Granny.

GRUFFALO’S CHILD

Do you like scary stories? OK, then you need to read Gruffalo’s Child by Julia Donaldson. In this story, a little baby Gruffalo is trying to look for the BIG BAD MOUSE.
This story takes place in the woods where it snows. It all takes place at night time. Dadda Gruffalo is fast asleep and that is when the baby Gruffalo sneaks out.
My favourite character in this book is the Mouse because I like the colours of mice, and there’s a bit he does that I really like. He was being kind and respectful because the Gruffalo’s child was disappointed because he wanted to see the Big Bad Mouse that his dadda kept telling him about. He couldn’t find it. But then the little mouse put on a show for him and pretended to be a Big Bad Mouse by tricking the gruffalo baby with his shadow! His shadow was really big. It was up to my roof. The Gruffalo’s child ran off frightened and ran back to her cave. She lived happily ever after.
We learned lots of animals at school. Maggie Mouse is one of the animals we learnt. I think that is the Big Bad Mouse, so it’s kind of normal for me. I wasn’t scared of the book however I watched the movie in ABCiview and it was good. It was a bit scary some times. There are games you can play on your iPad for this book too.

DO NOT OPEN THIS BOOK - IT’S OUT OF THIS WORLD by Andy Lee.
Do you like blue monsters? Then you just have to read this book! Andy Lee’s book has a blue monster as the main character. The second character is Douglas. He is a scientist and he is an orange monster.
This story takes place in space. The blue monster always tells us to not turn the page. He keeps asking us to not do it. So I… turn the page! Every time I turn the page he says something like, “ I like this beautiful view so don’t turn the page”.
On one page the blue monster hypnotised us to not turn the page. It did not work because it was pretend.
This book teaches people about space, the Asteroid Belt, and Black Holes.

LET YOUR MIND WANDER

Do you like mindful stories? Do you need a reminder to be in the moment? Then you must read this book by Cori Brooke. This book has a big message about being in the moment.
The main character is Spencer and the little brain is beside him. That’s right, the brain is really a character! Spencer spends too much time on his iPad. His mum tells him to stop. She says, “let your mind wander”. So then suddenly he really starts to imagine his brain on a lead like a pet. He decides to go to the beach and takes his pet brain with him.
His adventures with the brain are fabulous! If he was at home using his iPad he would have missed out.
I think this book is important for people who are stuck in the screens. If you read this book it might help you and then you’ll know how to be in the moment. So I rate this book 5 out of 10 Remi Reads stars. It was a good book but it wasn’t a book I thought that was amazing. I think that’s because this was more like an information book. Good night.
