Gotta cut your losses

On the one hand tonight we found Feliks book week costume.

On the other he insisted I "read" Lego instructions to him. Like "next you find a red two by four plate". Best believe I logged it.

21 Books!

We have moved swiftly through the Hot Wheels books phase into a Bluey Era.

Today's book reading session required a precise assembly of soft toys before we were able to complete the story.

Weekend Reads

We are up to 14 books!

Thank you to those who have donated already.

I'm not sure how we are going with the goal of getting Feliks to love books.

On the one hand, he needs Crazy Aarons thinking putty in his hand to sit still and listen to the books.

On the other hand, he has started writing his own books all of a sudden (and making up lots of songs about the Wither Boss from Minecraft!)

Feliks gave thumbs down to every book this weekend, and did not wish to elaborate. (I'm sceptical of these ratings as he loved the pictures in Magic Beach, and counted the Frogs with Spot).

One review he did partake in a as for The Very Hungry Caterpillar - a classic. Feliks said he did not like when the caterpillar became a butterfly, and proceeded to read the book backwards instead.

Two Funny Books

Today in the specialist's waiting room we read What The Ladybird Did Next, and then at bathtime we read The Beach.

Both books featured wee and poo, which Feliks found very funny.

He did not review the first book but here is his review of "The Beach":

👍🏼 - funny
👎🏼 - did not like flaps (they were hard to lift)

Monday 3rd of August

7 books down already!

Today was very difficult at first to get Feliks to agree to books. It felt like our goal of getting him to fall in love with reading was getting further and further away.

Then mama commentated hot wheels books and got Feliks to lift the flaps and find Spot.

Feliks was enthralled. He wanted to stay up late and keep reading.

Mama never wants to read a Hot Wheels book again in her life.

Hot Wheels Race For Treasure
Feliks favourite book

👍🏼 Treasure map, with x Marks the spot! Lots of shipwrecks
👎🏼 Feliks accidentally ripped the page trying to get another look at the treasure map

Saturday 1st of August

Three books read this morning to kick off the readathon!

Feliks review below:

BOOK 1 - Bluey Grannies
👍🏼 Feliks says this book is funny
👎🏼 Feliks did not like the dancing

BOOK 2 - Maybe
👍🏼 Feliks liked the beautiful pictures
👎🏼 Feliks said it was too long

BOOK 3 - Feliks Big Adventure: Moving House
👍🏼 Beach photos
👎🏼 Sad because I miss Albie

Our Why

Between 18 months and 2, we waited for the explosion of speech all the baby books promised... Little did we know we would be waiting until Feliks was 4! Feliks is a Gestalt processor, he learns in sentences, not words. We hope that through the Readathon his vocabulary will continue to grow!
